Egypt just reopened the Great Sphinx, the Menkaure Pyramid and the near Amenhotep II Museum in Giza after three years of restoration. Mamdouh al-Damati said some cracks had once appeared on the statue of a creature with a lion’s body and a human head. The Great Sphinx is the oldest known monument in the world. Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab attended the inauguration of the pyramid, the statue and the museum on the Giza pyramids plateau with Minister of Tourism, Hesham Zaazou.

Mahlab has explained that the government would not allow any violations against the sacred monuments in the future. In fact, Egyptian officials have hopes that the inauguration of the internationally acclaimed ancient monuments would spike the country’s tourism sector which has been particularly low since political turmoil erupted in 2011.
